Abstract

Background‌ & Objective: The purpose of this study, was to investigate the effect of 8weeks incremental aerobic exercise training with L-arginine supplementation on Muscular Enzymatic activity of superoxide dismutase and serum leptine in adult male wistar rat. Materials & Methods:32 mature male Wistar rats, were randomly divided into 4 groups: (control, incremental aerobic training, Incremental aerobic training+L-Arginine and L-Arginine). The training protocol consisted of running on treadmill for 8 weeks (5day/week). Water and food were freely available for samples. In the L-Arginine supplement groups, 4 gr of L-Arginine were used per 100 ml of water. Then,48 hours after the last exercise session and after 8 hours of fasting, blood and tissue samples were collected and the concentration of leptin hormone was measured by ELISA method and the enzyme activity of super-oxide dismutase in the muscle was measured by spectrophotometric method. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test. Results: The results showed that after 8 weeks of incremental aerobic exercise training with L-Arginine supplementation there was no significant difference in Muscular Enzymatic activity of superoxide dismutase Between groups (P> 0.05). but, serum leptin levels in the exercise with L-Arginine supplementation group significantly increased compared to exercise and L-Arginine groups (P <0.05). Also after 8 weeks, weight change in exercise with L-Arginine supplementation group were significantly lower than control group (P <0.05). Discussion and conclusion: Regarding the effect of L-arginine supplementation with exercise on increasing blood leptin levels, it may‌ be concluded that L-arginine supplementation prevents blood leptin loss and complications in athletes
